We are seeking a motivated and highly organised Paralegal to join our Marine team in Bournemouth on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience within a specialist legal field, working alongside marine insurance clients on a diverse range of matters while further developing your legal and commercial expertise. About the Role As part of our Marine team, you will work closely with fee earners to support a variety of marine insurance claims and associated legal matters. The role will involve assisting with case progression, drafting documentation, and liaising with clients, providing valuable exposure to both technical legal work and client interaction. You'll be joining a collaborative and fast-moving environment that offers excellent opportunities for learning, development, and professional growth. Key Responsibilities Assisting with the handling of a caseload of marine insurance claims. Supporting document management processes, including preparing bundles and maintaining accurate case files. Drafting legal correspondence and documentation. Communicating with clients by email, telephone, and in meetings where appropriate. Building strong client relationships and managing expectations effectively. Carrying out legal research and assisting with case preparation and strategy. Recognising and escalating any potential issues to senior team members. Responding to new enquiries and supporting cross-selling opportunities across the firm. Contributing to business development and marketing initiatives as required. Ensuring adherence to internal procedures and regulatory obligations. Staying informed of developments within marine law and wider legal practice. What We're Looking For Previous experience within a legal or professional services setting, ideally in a paralegal capacity. Excellent organisational abilities with strong attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a confident client-facing approach. Ability to prioritise workload, manage competing tasks, and meet deadlines in a busy environment. A proactive and analytical mindset with a genuine eagerness to learn. A positive, collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively within a team. Commercial awareness and an interest in marine and/or insurance law. Good IT proficiency, including experience using Outlook, Microsoft Word, and case management systems.
