Portico Logistics have an opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated person to join the organisation as Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding, to contribute to the growth of Portico Logistics by securing new customers and developing relationships that support their logistics and supply chain requirements. They will drive business growth by developing a strong network of contacts, identifying new customers requiring logistics services, researching market opportunities and supporting sales projections and revenue forecasting.
The successful candidate will have worked for a Logistics Provider / Freight Forwarder and will have experience working within Key Accounts Management or Operations. The salary is £40K - £45K basic depending on experience and the level of business that will follow them into this new role. There is a commission-based bonus scheme plus company car.
Key responsibilities:
* Set business development goals and implement strategies to support revenue growth
* Research, identify and develop new target markets and business opportunities
* Identify and engage prospective customers requiring logistics services
* Generate and pursue leads, managing them through the full sales cycle
* Prepare and present quotes, proposals and tailored logistics solutions to customers
* Attend meetings with prospective clients to develop new business relationships
* Attend domestic and international trade shows, conferences and networking events to promote Portico Logistics and generate new business leads
* Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing customers
* Attend Portico’s offices in Portsmouth on a regular basis to provide regular updates, reports and market feedback to the senior management team
Experience/Qualifications:
* Degree level qualification in business development, business management or economics (preferable).
* A minimum of 3 years field sales experience within the logistics or freight forwarding
* Strong experience and understanding of road, sea and air freight operations
* Understanding of customs procedures and international shipping documentation
* Demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities within the freight forwarding market
* An established customer portfolio or proven experience in building and maintaining client relationships
* Strong commercial awareness and judgement.
* Proven ability to generate new leads, build relationships, and successfully close business opportunities
* Results-driven mindset with determination to achieve sales targets
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
* Drivers Licence (essential).
(Monday – Friday 08.00-17.00 but flexibility will be required)
