Detailed job description
and main responsibilities
1. Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient to diagnose medical/surgical conditions and initiate treatment.
2. Works autonomously in recognised situations, including operating theatres and obstetrics.
3. Where appropriate, provide anaesthetic services under distant supervision.
4. Utilises professional judgement in managing complex and unpredictable care events.
5. To develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, relatives and MDT where required.
6. Use advanced communication skills to impart sensitive, complex and potentially distressing information to patients and carers.
7. To provide accurate and effective clinical handovers across all professional boundaries.
8. Make and receive patient referrals to/from other medical specialities.
9. Solo transfers of patients both intra and inter hospital where applicable.
10. Documents in medical notes, history, clinical findings, physical examination, interpretation and plan of care.
11. Undertakes daily reviews of critical care patients and formulates and discusses plans on Consultant ward rounds.
12. To actively support the discharge planning process of patients.
13. Recognises own limitations and effectively seeks appropriate help.
14. Maintains confidentiality of patient.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
15. Recognised basic Medical Degree
16. GMC Registration
17. 3 years’ experience in the speciality at Senior House Officer/Core Training level or higher or its equivalence
Desirable criteria
18. Postgraduate qualification in Anaesthesia or equivalent
19. Part 1 FRCA or equivalent.Final FRCA or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
20. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to enter UK Anaesthesia Speciality Training.
21. Ability to deliver anaesthesia care for (with distance supervision) of ASA 1&2 cases.
22. Clinical training and experience to act as Critical Care Unit resident doctor with non-resident Consultant Supervision.
23. Medical Knowledge
24. Ability to perform within a multidisciplinary team.
25. All round general experience in anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia and intensive care
26. An understanding of the NHS management structure and clinical governance
27. Willing to work as part of a team and share management and administrative responsibility.
Desirable criteria
28. Completion of equivalent of SHO/CT2 level competency based programme.
29. Evidence of involvement in research projects and presentation at professional meetings and an understanding of the research process.
Technical skills and competenices
Essential criteria
