Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint One LAS Specialty Registrar (ST3-ST5) in Stroke Medicine to cover a vacancy. The appointment is to commence on 6th August 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months.
Eligibility & Qualifications
This is not a formal Training post and does not carry an NTN. Applicants may seek recognition of the year as sub‑speciality training through their postgraduate deanery as part of a formal Out of Programme Training (OOPT). Full MRCP (including PACES) and ALS are essential criteria for this post.
Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise are required. If the appointee does not hold the right of residence in the UK, sponsorship will be provided.
The duties of this post are equivalent to a Specialty Registrar ST3+ level.
Key Responsibilities
* Gain experience across the whole stroke pathway, including hyper‑acute, acute and stroke rehabilitation care.
* Work 8 months in Sheffield and 4 months in Doncaster, providing specialist experience in a district general hospital HASU and a neuroscience centre as part of the stroke network.
* Participate in selection of patients for mechanical thrombectomy and assessment of possible stroke patients in A&E.
* Participate on weekend and bank‑holiday stroke rota in Sheffield on a 1:5 pattern.
* During HASU blocks, work 1–5 twilight weeks (1 pm–9 pm) and early shifts from 8 am.
* Provide weekend coverage on HASU 8 am–8 pm on a 1:5 basis and participate in the bank‑holiday on‑call rota.
* Work under the supervision of stroke physicians and stroke‑interested neurologists.
