Job overview

We have a fantastic fixed term/secondment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced pharmacy technician, to join our pharmacy procurement team at one of the largest and busiest tertiary referral teaching trusts in the country. This role sits within the pharmacy procurement team and has additional duties within pharmacy stores across NUH, working closely with both teams to support safe and effective stock control through appropriate procurement activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacy technician to gain knowledge and skills within pharmacy procurement. You will work closely alongside a team of experienced technical staff to maintain and develop a high standard of medicines procurement at NUH.


Main duties of the job

Under the leadership and direction of the Advanced Technician – Procurement, Purchasing and formulary support the main duties for this role includes:

To support the management and communication of medicine shortages and supply problems and provide guidance and technical advice to purchasing staff, to include the sourcing of acceptable alternatives.

To support the timely and safe local implementation of regional and national medicines procurement contracts to involve consideration of risks, stock management and financial issues.

To support effective stock control through appropriate procurement within the Pharmacy department to minimise stock value and prevent accumulation of expired stock whilst maintaining acceptable levels of availability and associated workload.

To provide technical support to the pharmacy finance/purchasing function to ensure safe, appropriate and cost-efficient purchasing of medicine.

* To provide support to the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) processes via the Chief Technician – Procurement and Formulary Support

Training and Qualifications

* BTEC, City and Guilds or NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services, or recognised equivalent
* General Pharmaceutical Council Registered Pharmacy Technician.
* To be a validated accuracy checker


Experience

* Substantial hospital pharmacy experience
* Relevant experience in a senior technician role responsible for managing staff, services or resources
* Knowledge and/or previous experience relating to procurement processes
* Experience of handling, analysing and reporting complex data


Communication and Relationship Skills

* Good interpersonal, negotiating and presentation skills - written and verbal
* Excellent attention to detail, even when working under pressure or to a deadline
* Good communication skills with with multi-disciplinary team members.


Analytical and Judgement Skills

* Ability to work alone and assist in the decision making process of changes.


Planning and Organisation Skills

* Good organisational skills – able to prioritise, direct, coordinate and motivate others
* Flexibility to deal with competing demands and interruptions
* Proven effective time-management – having a planned and logical approach and the ability to work to deadlines, even when under pressure
* Evidence of project management


Physical skills

* Competent in using spreadsheets and databases
* Ability to work at a desk with ICT equipment for prolonged periods of time.
* Advanced skills in utilising Microsoft Excel

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. This is in line with the current guidance in England that whilst young people under the age of 18 can leave school (on the last Friday in June) they must then do one of the following:

* Stay in full-time education, for example at a college
* Start an Apprenticeship
* Spend 20 hours of more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

ID and Right to work checks : NUH authenticate ID and right to work documentation including passports and driving licenses through a system called Trust ID. NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Consent:

* Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Departmentconfidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
* Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
