235234 Graduate Healthcare Scientist in Paediatric Audiology (Paediatric Audiologist) (SK)

Join to apply for the 235234 Graduate Healthcare Scientist in Paediatric Audiology (Paediatric Audiologist) (SK) role at NHS Lothian.

Overview

The Children’s Hearing service at NHS Lothian is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the paediatric audiology team in an exciting role where you will support children and their families. This is a ideal opportunity to develop your paediatric skills with a supportive team.

We anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the vacancy early once a sufficient number of applications are received. Please make sure you complete and submit your application early.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently required. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Responsibilities

* Support children and their families as part of the paediatric audiology service.
* Work alongside existing paediatric audiologists and assistant staff at the purpose‑built Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh.
* Carry out paediatric diagnostic hearing assessments for children aged 4 years and over in the ENT clinic and at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Lauriston Hospital.

* Conduct diagnostic testing of children aged 0‑18 years, including ABR, ASSR, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Performance Audiometry, Pure‑Tone Audiometry, TEAE testing, otoscopy and tympanometry.
* Fit hearing aids for all ages and participate in the fitting of implantable devices as part of the national microtia service.
* Contribute to service improvements by developing and reviewing SOPs, patient information audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Help drive the vision for quality improvement and support the further development of the paediatric audiology service provision at NHS Lothian.

Working Hours

The service runs clinics Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00. The expected working time is 37 hours within this period. There is a NHS Scotland initiative to have a reduced working week of 36 hours by 2026 with no salary impact.
