Locally Employed Doctor (Standard) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The doctors are part of a team who are assigned to Obstetrics and Gynaecology to support the rota providing 24/7 cover to Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergency admissions and inpatients. The successful candidate will be supported by a named educational supervisor.
At the ST1-2 level the post-holder will be expected to have completed Foundation Training or equivalent. The successful candidate will take part in an emergency on‑call rota and routine elective work in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This will include Caesarean Section lists, Gynaecology theatre lists, administrative tasks and general and specialist outpatient clinics.
The post will be based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital or Good Hope Hospital with an understanding that the post holder may also be required to work at different sites, dependent on the needs of the service. It would be beneficial that you would be able to drive and have your own means of transport.
Main duties of the job
* Work with a named consultant, who will act as a mentor and will be available to perform appraisals, provide support and advice.
* Attend weekly meetings to discuss CTG's and interesting cases for learning.
* Attend monthly audit meetings and pursue audit projects.
* Attend the monthly mortality, morbidity, audit and governance meetings.
* Be actively involved in quality improvement, research and teaching projects to enhance surgical portfolio.
* Liaise with Consultant, other junior doctors, Nurses, Midwives, patients, relatives, administrative staff and other senior medical staff.
* Supervise and support more junior members of the team, where appropriate.

Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC with licence to practice.
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
* Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
* Medical Degree from a recognised University.
Experience
* A minimum of 2 years full‑time post‑graduate training (or equivalent part‑time) or equivalent experience and competencies.
* Ability to work in a team.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English and ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and other health professionals.
* Participation in teaching activities.
* Knowledge of clinical research.
* Commitment to continuing personal development and medical education.
* Computer literacy.
* Enhanced level Criminal Records Disclosure check.
