Consultant Colorectal Surgeon (Interest in Cancer)
Contract: Permanent, Full‑time (10 sessions per week). Participation in on‑call rota. Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum. Closing date: 02/01/2026 23:59.
Location: Churchill Hospital, Oxford (based at the Department of Colorectal Surgery). The role may involve working at other Oxfordshire Trust sites, including John Radcliffe Hospital and Horton Hospital.

Main responsibilities
* Surgical management of elective and emergency colorectal cases, with a primary focus on colorectal cancer.
* Working within a team of eight consultants and one specialist doctor in colorectal surgery.
* Participation in the emergency on‑call rota for general surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital.
* Development and delivery of colorectal services across the trust, including lower GI endoscopy lists.
* Providing clinical governance, audit and teaching activities as required.
* Working flexibly across any of the trust’s Oxfordshire sites.
Qualifications and training
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
* Completion of Foundation and Core Surgical Training (CT1‑CT3). Appropriate higher colorectal surgical qualification (MD/PhD) or equivalent.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) dated within 6 months of interview.
* Experience in colorectal surgery, including complex cancer cases, and exposure to emergency general surgery.
Experience and competence
* Experience in a specialist colorectal unit.
* Evidence of decision‑making at consultant level and ability to manage complex clinical problems.
* Leadership of clinical teams and effective administrative and time‑management skills.
* Strong communication, teaching and clinical governance contribution.
* Robotic surgery training and JAG accreditation, peer‑reviewed publications preferred.
Skills and knowledge
* Open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
* Independent colonoscopy practice.
* Robotic surgery experience.
* Robust knowledge of colorectal cancer management and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
* Excellent spoken and written English.
* Experience in teaching and maintaining clinical audit processes.
