Job purpose

The main duties of this role will include the following: general household cleaning, including laundry and putting clothes away. Assisting me to get up, prepare the bath area/shower, and lay clothes out for me. Preparing lunch and dinner, as well as grocery shopping. Basic help with pets and accompanying me on dog walks. Helping with organisation and tidying up. Sometimes accompanying me to appointments, doing shopping and necessary errands, and reminding me to get out in the fresh air. Going out into the community for coffee and to keep my social skills active. Going to the gym or swimming pool. Helping with organising my room and garage decluttering. Because of health issues with diabetes, I need to go outside for walks and light exercise, so I’m looking for someone who can encourage, remind me, and schedule this regularly. Arranging outings at least twice a week to take long walks and accompany me. Because I have a low immune system, basic PPE must be worn if you have a mild illness. I also expect you to help me use nutrition to manage my diabetes.

The successful candidate would be able to cook meals to my specific needs (e.g., fish and low-fat meals). The role requires someone open to learning new skills and with excellent time management. This can be physically active; therefore, being physically fit is preferred. The property has no stairs.

Location: NR17, Attleborough

Details: Domestic care - changing bed, laundry, hoovering and general housework to a high standard. Meal preparation - shopping, preparing and cooking meals. Driver with own car - driving/accompanying to some appointments. Occasional errands. Some personal care – applying cream on back, help with pets, occasional errands. Basic help with pets, accompanying me on dog walks. Support with organisation. Planning trips and outings. Accompanying me to social and leisure activities.

Person specification: Listed below are the essential and desirable skills, competencies and qualities. My assessment of these, both on application and at interview, will be the main factor in determining success. Please refer to these when submitting your application.

Essential: Able to organise nature walks or trips, internet and computer literate, able to search and plan local walks to promote my fitness. Physically fit and agile to take walks with me. Enthusiastic and self-motivated. Conscientious and able to complete tasks within the timeframe given. Kind natured, responsible and reliable. Must have a car to take me to appointments and/or shopping. Happy to work around a very friendly dog and cat. Willingness to learn/open to learning new skills. Good sense of humour with a positive and pro-active attitude. Being able to cook. An ability to be adaptive. A calm and supportive nature.

Desirable: Female preferred due to personal care element (Schedule 9, P1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies)

Summary terms and conditions: The rate of pay is £15 per hour. You will be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred as part of the role. Hours and times of work: 18 hours per week. Usual pattern is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons 13:30 - 18:00, flexible depending on activities. The hours may vary; sometimes two days with longer time out, but Friday is swimming day and help to finish by 18:00. Planning as much as possible subject to pain on the day.

You may be required to undertake annual training. Free training for all employed staff via FLICK training. If this job requires any of the following: Manual Handling, Handling of hazardous chemicals (e.g. household cleaning products), Food handling.

The post is subject to the following: A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer. Satisfactory references from two referees, one of whom must be your current or last employer. Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
