The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke is currently recruiting for a mechanically biased Design Manager for an aviation / airport project in Greater London. A Laing O'Rourke Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered in line with the design management procedures for completeness and compliance with contractual obligations, including factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. The Design Manager oversees the production, control, and distribution of design information at different project stages and ensures regular progress reporting of the design.
The Laing O'Rourke Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects. Our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, aiming to maximize and realize the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.
What will the role look like?
* Supporting our consultant teams to maximize their effectiveness and value in providing integrated design solutions that meet our clients' and our business needs (strategies and budgets).
* Maximizing the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
* Reviewing design delivery to enhance quality and efficiency of solutions, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
* Supporting our consultants in adopting LOR's design processes, delivering with rigour and quality project management, and ensuring effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (including tools like BIM/Digital Engineering).
* Capturing business knowledge and capability to enable continuous improvement, innovation, and enhanced engineering enterprise performance.

* Creating and owning the design brief
* Design for Manufacture and Assembly
* Information and Change Control
* Design compliance
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* First degree in Mechanical Engineering or other appropriate construction-related qualification with design experience.
* Approximately 5 years' experience, including managing design end-to-end from concept to handover, with diverse procurement routes and sector experience.
