This new clinical nurse specialist role is an exciting opportunity to deliver a co‑ordinated, comprehensive and holistic service for patients with a Mesothelioma cancer diagnosis, within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB). The post holder will also provide advice, guidance and support to patients with a Mesothelioma cancer diagnosis across Wales virtually and work closely with the National Mesothelioma Multi‑Professional Team and Mesothelioma UK to support patients across Wales and develop services.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of this role is to provide specialist care for patients with Mesothelioma Cancer across Wales. Acting as the Keyworker for Mesothelioma patients within CTMUHB.
The postholder will undertake an holistic needs assessment with the individual to identify their specific needs, resulting in the provision of support, information, education and counselling for patients, their families and carers, to ensure they understand all elements of their cancer journey in a format which suits their needs.
The postholder will regularly deal with distressing or emotional circumstances, imparting difficult news and supporting terminally ill patients and their families.
They will act as a clinical resource for patients across Wales, within their own Health Board and for Health Boards across Wales. They will be a member of local multi‑disciplinary team (MDT)/specialist mesothelioma multi‑disciplinary team.
They provide clinical expertise to the Mesothelioma UK Support Line*, discussing complex information with patients, carers, HCP's, and others on a range of matters.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; while the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing candidates. This isn't fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Person Specification
Qualification and knowledge
* Professional knowledge acquired through a degree supplemented by postgraduate Diploma level specialist training, experience, and/or short courses
* Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards.
* Non‑Medical Prescriber qualification, or willingness to work towards.
Experience
* Relevant post registration experience, at Band 5 or above, in cancer, palliative care or the speciality.
* Experience of multi‑professional working.
* Experience of audit and research.
Skills and attributes
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Flexible attitude to working.
* Welsh language skills at speaking/listening at Level 3 or above.
