The Role
Join the Highways and Public Realm team at Herefordshire Council as a Principal Highway Drainage Engineer. You will manage the highway drainage system across the county, ensuring timely investigations and resolution of reports, coordinating with partner contractors and water companies, and leading the development and delivery of a county‑wide gully and drainage asset cleansing programme.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the management of the highway drainage system across Herefordshire.
* Investigate and resolve reported drainage issues in a timely manner.
* Raise jobs to partner contractors or coordinate with water companies through annual programmes.
* Develop and deliver a county‑wide gully and drainage asset cleansing programme.
* Work closely with the Flood Risk Management team to mitigate flooding risks and with the Road Safety and Traffic Management team to maintain network flow during extreme weather.
Qualifications
* Knowledge and experience of investigating and resolving highway drainage system problems.
* Experience in highway drainage design and the design and implementation of SuDS.
* Comprehensive knowledge of key highway and flood risk legislation such as the Highways Act 1980, Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Flood Risk Regulations 2009, Land Drainage Act 1991, etc.
* Experience working positively with key stakeholders and communities.
* Experience reviewing highway drainage plans during development management and willingness to engage in new project schemes.
