Overview
This is an exciting time to join the imaging department at the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust following the merger of Bedford and Luton & Dunstable hospital. The expansion of services includes cross-site working and new equipment (cross-site PACS system, new USS, CT and MRI scanners). The Trust is seeking a Consultant with broad experience in all aspects of breast imaging to join a team that includes consultant radiologists, breast clinicians, and consultant practitioners. Expertise in symptomatic and breast screening work is essential, including mammography, tomosynthesis and MRI reporting, breast ultrasound, stereotactic and ultrasound-guided core biopsies, vacuum-assisted biopsies, localisation of impalpable breast lesions and MDT participation.
You will be joining two busy hospital sites (Bedford and Luton) with A&E, obstetrics-led maternity and paediatrics services. Vacancies may close earlier than the advertised closing date when sufficient applications have been received. All new staff are subject to a probationary period (first 6 months in post). Travel between hospital sites may be required.
Responsibilities
* Evaluation of women referred to one-stop clinics by General Practitioners and other medical practitioners.
* Evaluation of women recalled from the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
* Requesting specialist imaging and performing breast interventional techniques under ultrasound and stereotactic guidance.
* Performing pre-operative localisations.
* Hot reporting for one-stop clinics.
* Reporting of follow-up mammograms.
* Provide appropriate advice and counselling to women attending one-stop and screening assessment clinics.
* Read a minimum of 5,000 mammograms per year to comply with NHSBSP requirements.
* Participation in consensus film reading and review of interval cancers.
* Attend regular surgical and screening MDTs to review breast imaging and cross-sectional imaging, discuss biopsy results and management plans.
* Report breast MRI.
* Participate in reading of PERFORMS test sets regularly.
* Participate in development and maintenance of SOPs.
