We're working with a supportive Pupil Referral Unit in Stockton-on-Tees who are looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team. This is a meaningful role where relationships come first, consistency matters and every small win counts. This provision supports pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, so they're looking for someone calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent, someone who can build trust, set boundaries and help pupils to re-engage with their education.
Role Overview:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. supporting them to access learning, manage behaviour and to regulate their emotions.
You'll help to create a structured, safe and predictable environment where pupils feel understood. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you'll contribute to behaviour support strategies and personalised plans that enable students to make positive choices and progress both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide support to pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges, and work 1:1 with those who need additional support
* Support de-escalation using calm, consistent approaches
* Help pupils to develop coping strategies and resilience
* Implement behaviour support plans and personalised learning strategies
* Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to promote engagement and attendance
Requirements:
* Previous experience in a PRU setting, or working with children with SEN/SEMH needs is highly desirable
* A background in youth work, care, education or similar support roles is advantageous
* Confidence managing challenging behaviour
* A calm, patient and resilient approach
