The opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 3 HCA to join our friendly team in the Interventional Radiology Department in Imaging. You will assist qualified nurses, radiographers and radiologists in delivering a high standard of quality care to patients and support the team in the smooth running of the department. You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, maintaining a professional and caring manner. Experience in hospital-based patient care is required; experience in surgical or theatre specialties is desirable. Experience coordinating lists/clinics/procedure planning and working with multidisciplinary teams is desirable. You must have good IT skills and be able to learn new, specialty-specific systems. Previous experience in a Radiology Department is desirable but not essential. Full time 37.5 hours per week, 08:30 to 17:00.
Responsibilities
* To actively and safely participate as a member of the nursing team and contribute towards the smooth and efficient running of the department, particularly in Ultrasound and Interventional Radiology areas.
* To assist the nurses, sonographers and radiologists in giving individualised care to patients and managing patient flow effectively.
* To provide excellent service to patients with respect and compassion, supported by effective communication and customer care skills.
* To support the Health Care Assistant and Nurse team by supervising the safe deployment of staff and coordinating clinics by using effective communication with multidisciplinary teams.
* To assist inpatient and day-case patients and radiologists during interventional ultrasound guidance procedures (e.g., liver biopsy, ascitic drainage).
* To assist radiologists and advanced practitioner radiographers during fluoroscopy procedures, ensuring smooth running of lists, patient care and preparation, liaison with wards, room preparation, and post-procedure cleaning.
* To correctly identify and prepare patients for the range of invasive procedures and implement patient safety checks prior to procedures (e.g., verifying blood results, fasting status, vital signs, clotting profiles, and medical history).
* To escalate anomalies from safety checks promptly to the radiologist or registered nurse to enable timely correction or rescheduling of procedures.
* To monitor and record patient vital signs post-procedure and report anomalies as required.
* Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from imaging procedures, including assistance with activities such as nutrition, toileting, dressing and mobility.
* To welcome patients and relatives, explain procedures and provide guidance during recovery and post-discharge.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
* Essential criteria: Care Certificate; good interpersonal skills and English language; well-written personal statement; previous hospital-based nursing care; working towards NVQ Level 2/3.
* Desirable criteria: Level 3 educational qualifications or extensive relevant healthcare experience; aseptic technique skills; prior nursing care experience in theatre, surgical ward, or outpatient unit.
