Senior Technical Accountant
Milton Keynes, MK9 – office based role

The Role
We are seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to lead our technical function, elevate our compliance quality and support our exceptional team. This role is ideal for a technically strong practice accountant who enjoys complex work, mentoring others and improving systems.
Key Responsibilities:
\t* Prepare and review statutory year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
\t* Lead corporation tax computations and CT600 reviews using TaxCalc, including complex adjustments
\t* Review VAT returns, including complex and property-related cases, ensuring accuracy in QuickBooks and FreeAgent
\t* Oversee CIS review and compliance support
\t* Prepare and review advanced self-assessment cases (HNW, property portfolios, CGT and multi-income individuals)
\t* Manage a portfolio of larger, more complex clients, presenting accounts and tax advice clearly
\t* Provide technical guidance, review the work of Account Managers and juniors, and support process improvement
\t* Support HMRC enquiries and investigations, maintaining technical quality across the practice

The Ideal Candidate
You’ll be a confident Senior Accountant who thrives on complex work, supports colleagues and maintains high technical and compliance standards. About you:
\t* ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualification
\t* 4–6+ years’ UK accountancy practice experience
\t* Experience managing complex client portfolios
\t* Strong technical knowledge (accounts, corporation tax, VAT, CIS, self-assessment, CGT)
\t* Proven review and sign-off experience
\t* Proficiency with TaxCalc, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Payroll Manager
\t* Excellent communication skills
\t* Analytical, detail-focused, solution-led approach
\t* Alignment with Quest’s values: Positivity, Energy and Passion
Desirable:
\t* Group accounts and advanced reporting experience
\t* Knowledge of lease accounting
\t* Process improvement or systems optimisation exposure
\t* Experience in restructuring, advisory or tax planning
\t* Commercial awareness and interest in practice growth
