Michelham Ward is an acute 21‑bedded Gastroenterology ward. Patients treated on the ward have a variety of gastrointestinal needs including Crohn’s disease, alcoholic hepatitis, eating disorders, mal‑absorption disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastric cancers and acute liver diseases. It is also the cohort ward for the Trust’s C. difficile patients, and includes a dedicated area for bariatric patients.
Qualifications
* Experienced Clinical Support Worker (hospital experience desirable but not essential)
* Minimum GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4, or functional skills for English/Maths
* Care Certificate and/or NVQ2 two in health and social care or equivalent role
Responsibilities
* Provide delegated clinical procedures such as insertion/removal of cannula, venepuncture, wound assessment and simple dressings, removal of urinary catheter (training will be provided)
* Promote dignity, respect and privacy in the delivery of care duties
* Take patients’ vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, height, weight, neurological assessment, ECG, respirations, urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy testing and escalates concerns in line with policy
* Recognise deteriorating patients and follow the escalation process
* Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, using initiative, effective interpersonal and communication skills
* Complete an induction course and all Trust statutory/mandatory training, and share knowledge and experience with the ward
