An excellent opportunity to join the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) as a Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a professional, cohesive, and well-established team based at the RUH in the beautiful city of Bath. In this key role, you will lead a large, skilled team to ensure the smooth running of the entire Cellular Pathology discipline.
You will be part of the Pathology leadership team, including the Clinical Director, Pathology Services Manager, and Blood Sciences Laboratory Manager. Together, you will create and implement the strategic vision for Pathology, playing a major role in transformational projects, particularly within Histopathology. The service provides Histopathology, Non-Gynae Cytology (including andrology), and mortuary services to BaNES, Wiltshire, and North Somerset.
The Cellular Pathology Laboratory processes 34,000 histopathology requests, 22,000 immunocytochemistry slides, 2,000 non-gynaecological specimens, and conducts 130 post-mortems annually. The department transitioned to UKAS 15189 in August 2024, and the mortuary is licensed by the HTA.
Main duties of the job
You will have the opportunity to drive service change and quality improvements through the implementation of a Managed Equipment Service, positively impacting patient wellbeing.
The department is focused on digital transformation, having recently gone live with the Fujifilm Synapse system for digital reporting and implementing Ibex AI for prostate biopsies. The department is at a mature stage of digital MDT meetings, with systems fully integrated with Ultra 4.5 LIMS.
We actively train new Biomedical Scientists, hold IBMS Training Laboratory status, and support staff development.
You will need HCPC registration, an FIBMS or MSc, and proven experience at a senior level in Cellular Pathology, along with management and leadership qualifications.

Qualifications (Essential)
* Biomedical Science (Hons) degree (or equivalent)
* HCPC registered BMS
* Fellow of the IBMS or relevant MSc
Knowledge and Experience (Essential)
* Practical and theoretical knowledge of Cellular Pathology
* Extensive managerial or supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory
* Knowledge of new technologies in the discipline
