Rail Engineering Supervisor Depot-Based (Locomotive Maintenance) Location: Chesterfield Salary: £60,000 per annum Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Holidays: 36 days of annual leave Pension plan Lead a Skilled Rail Engineering Team Across Two Depots We're seeking an experienced Rail Engineering Supervisor to lead a team of skilled technicians across our two key depot sites: Worksop and Chesterfield. In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, servicing, overhauls, fault diagnostics, and modifications of a diverse and operationally critical fleet of locomotives, ranging from heritage traction to modern industrial stock. This is a permanent, depot-based role (no UK-wide travel) offering strong progression potential within a respected rail engineering environment. The Fleet You'll Oversee Includes: Class 37 – Heavy overhauls, mainline-compatible Class 20 – Modified for specialist operations Class 08 – Shunting fleet, including remote-controlled units Modern industrial locomotives – Used in freight, depot support, and infrastructure projects Key Responsibilities Supervise day-to-day engineering operations across both depots Lead and develop a team of technicians, supporting training and performance Oversee and coordinate all scheduled maintenance, exams, overhauls, fault finding, and component upgrades Ensure all engineering works are delivered to safety, quality, and compliance standards Allocate workloads, monitor progress, and support depot planning and workflow Collaborate with fleet and planning teams to minimise downtime and improve reliability Drive continuous improvement across engineering operations What You’ll Need Strong background in locomotive maintenance, preferably with Class 37, 08, 20, or industrial stock Supervisory or team lead experience within a depot or rail engineering environment Knowledge of diesel traction, mechanical systems, fault diagnostics, and exam schedules Competency in health & safety compliance and depot operating standards Strong communication and people-management skills A flexible, hands-on leadership style What’s On Offer Up to £60,000 salary, depending on experience Fixed weekday hours (Mon–Fri, 7 am–3 pm) Depot-based role (Worksop & Chesterfield) Involvement in one of the UK's most diverse and historic freight fleets Career development and promotion opportunities Location Info You will divide your time across two key engineering hubs: Worksop – Nottinghamshire Chesterfield (North Derbyshire) Ideal for candidates living in Chesterfield, Worksop, Mansfield, Sheffield, Rotherham, Retford, or surrounding areas.
