Offer description

Role Responsibility Term Time Only – 40 weeks per year | 37 hours per week Fair Access is pleased to be recruiting two full‑time Education Programme Tutors as a part of our service expansion. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of children and young people across Kent by supporting their re‑engagement with education. Education Programme Tutors deliver high‑quality one‑to‑one tuition as part of a bespoke education package for children and young people (CYP) in Key Stages 1–4. The programme provides interim support for CYP who are without a school place due to exclusion, or who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and are awaiting placement at a named provision. Our Tutors play a vital role in preparing learners for successful transition into their onward education placement which are secured by colleagues at Kent Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Kent PRU and Attendance Service (KPAS). As an Education Programme Tutor, you will work flexibly to support children and young people across Kent, delivering high‑quality educational packages that help re‑engage learners and raise achievement. The contracted base for this role is flexible, with Tutors primarily supporting pupils within the district in which they live, reducing travel time and enabling strong local relationships. Kent County Council is committed to its Flexible Working Policy, supporting a positive work–life balance. The role involves travel to a variety of learning settings, including homes, schools and community venues, and approved mileage claims will be paid in line with KCC policy. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who live in the West, North and/or East districts of Kent, as there is a strong need for local Tutors in these areas. Living within or close to these districts will support timely, responsive delivery of education packages and help build effective relationships with children, young people and partner services in the local community. However, applications from candidates with relevant experience and a willingness to work flexibly across neighbouring areas are also welcomed. You will be required to deliver tuition in a range of locations across Kent and be prepared to travel across the county as needed. There is, however, flexibility to complete non‑teaching aspects of the role from home or from a local KCC building where appropriate. The wellbeing and inclusion of our learners is central to everything we do. As part of a committed and supportive team, you will plan and deliver personalised, academic‑focused packages that respond to the individual needs of each child or young person. Delivery may include face‑to‑face 1:1 tuition, live online sessions via Microsoft Teams, or a blended approach. We are looking for passionate, motivated and empathetic professionals with experience of supporting children with social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will be resilient, reliable and committed to championing vulnerable learners, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging situations sensitively and effectively. Clear and professional communication, both verbal and written, is essential. The Education Programme is committed to staff development and offers a comprehensive CPD programme, including regular training on high‑incidence SEND. If you are committed to inclusive education and want to be part of a service that genuinely changes outcomes for children and young people, we would love to hear from you. Additional Information This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification. This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability. As part of the interview process for this role you will be required to complete an assessment task virtually and submit this. A further face to face interview will be necessary to finalise the successful candidate. Dates will be determined on an individual and ongoing basis.
