We are seeking to appoint a permanent post for Senior Teaching Technician: Fluid and Thermodynamics, to be part of a team of two technicians, providing practical teaching and support within the Fluid and Thermodynamic technical subject areas involving a range of teaching techniques. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to shape our multidisciplinary Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering education. The successful candidate will be working alongside the programme team(s) to design and develop curricula and pedagogies that leads to outstanding learning and practice experience particularly contributing to Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate programmes.

We have a range of Fluid and Thermodynamics technologies at Frenchay Campus and this role would work in a team, across different lab areas in line with curriculum development. Currently we have experimental rigs of subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels, hydraulic benches, pipe-flow and open‑channel rigs, heat‑transfer and thermodynamics equipment, Schlieren and other optical flow visualisation systems for compressible and unsteady aerodynamics demonstrations.

The ideal candidate will be someone with experience in a technical environment, with the skill and passion for giving demonstration and instruction to students in a technical environment, in the Fluids and Thermofluids context. About You

We require candidates that have a diverse skill set and who can provide evidence of broad technical experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and thermofluid systems. We highly value candidates who have a background and knowledge that can help develop our aspiring student engineers. The School has held Athena Swan Bronze award since 2015 and have recently had this renewed with a new Action Plan for gender equity in School of Engineering across our staff and student community. We have a global outlook, through our international and national partnerships and the respective diversity of our staff and students. The successful applicant will have a Degree level qualification in the relevant subject area, with evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Candidates should be able to showcase evidence of their continuous professional growth in relevant subject areas. The appointee will be part of a team supporting delivery of Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace degree related modules.

This is a full‑time, permanent post working 37 hours per week. This post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time. Salary offers are made in line with the University’s salary assessment guidelines, reflecting your relevant skills and experience in parity with colleagues.
