As part of Governance and Legal Services Directorate based in County Hall, the Democratic Services Team support the Elected, Independent and Co‑opted members of the Council and contribute to the Council’s governance and decision‑making processes.

The service now operates a hybrid working model which enables employees to work flexibly from home or from an office base, depending upon service requirements.


About the job

Cardiff Council is looking for a talented individual to join the Protocol Office part of its highly regarded Democratic Services Team. This team are principally involved in providing support to the Lord Mayor of Cardiff and co‑ordinating National and local events attended by high level dignitaries.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, has experience in local government, understands the roles of the Lord Mayor and Elected Members and who is keen to join our team. The post would benefit from having a Level 4 (Advanced) from ALTE Welsh Language Framework, but this is not essential.


What We Are Looking For From You

The post holder will undertake a range of duties, including the co‑ordination of civic activities and events on behalf of The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff and Cardiff Council, liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders, advising senior leaders and provide administrative support for the Protocol Office.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a high standard of communication skills, both written and oral; good interpersonal and diplomacy along with an awareness of the political context of the Council and an understanding of the roles that the post holder will be supporting. The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, often under pressure, maintain good customer care, and to work as part of a team are essential. The successful candidate will receive appropriate on‑job training and support.

This vacancy is suitable for post share subject to there being another suitably qualified and experienced employee/ candidate who wishes to post share
