Area Manager - Bristol/Gloucester
Mountain Warehouse is a highly successful outdoor retailer offering quality outdoor clothing and equipment at the lowest prices since 1997. With over 400 stores and more than 3000 employees, we are looking for a passionate, operational, forward‑thinking and people‑focused Area Manager to lead our teams across the Bristol/Gloucester areas.
This role sits within a newly created area of the business, established as a result of our continued growth and the need to expand our Area Manager coverage across the store network. As our retail footprint grows, this position will play a key part in supporting store performance, team development, and the overall customer experience.
Reporting to your Regional Manager, you will lead approximately 19 stores. Your key responsibilities will be to maximise store sales and profitability, focusing on operational and customer service standards, as well as building and developing a strong team through motivational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
* Driving sales to achieve business budget and profit growth
* Establish and maintain best practice in customer care
* Build a people development strategy to support succession
* Support and coach improvement in visual merchandising to achieve company standard
* Deliver operational compliance across your stores
* Act as liaison between Head Office, building and encouraging relations
* Ensure adherence to company procedure and policy, protecting the company’s assets and brand and building strong relationships with people partners
* Build strong relationships with key Head Office partners to develop a robust strategy
* Recruit, coach, develop and manage a high‑performing team to the standard required by Mountain Warehouse
* Visit stores on a regular cycle to ensure consistency, leaving a footprint to support actions and target increased visits to reverse underperformance
* Constantly look for opportunities to grow profit by reducing costs
A Typical Week
* Drive KPIs through the store teams and ensure stores are commercial for the market
* Analyse business results and trends; taking appropriate action to drive sales and profitability
* Visit stores and add value by leaving clear and supportive actions to meet the business strategy and lines of direction
* Recognise outstanding sales performance across teams
* Develop, share and implement best practice across the area
* Communicate regularly with the Regional Manager and Head Office, concerning problems and highlighting opportunities
* Be an inspirational leader, demonstrating positive service and management techniques
We Would Like To Meet Someone Who Is
* Has a proven track record delivering service, sales and profit expectations at field level
* Has a minimum of 2 years field management experience, preferably in retail or service sector – apparel experience is a huge advantage
* Proven people management, communication and leadership skills
* Demonstrated track record of managing projects such as opening stores successfully and dealing efficiently with issues as they arise
