Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Midwife, to join the Jessop Wing, Pastoral Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are looking to recruit an inspirational and highly motivated Midwife with proven skills and abilities. The post holder will also provide pastoral care and be the point of contact for newly qualified midwives, internationally recruited midwives and MSW’s working as part of a collaborative working network with other specialist midwives and members of the senior midwifery management team. To support the retention of midwives, to work alongside all new starters in clinical practice, to enhance confidence, competence and the acquisition of new skills. The post holder will be required to work alongside the Professional Development Midwives, Professional Midwifery Advocates and core midwives, in the delivery of care and the implementation of the practice development agenda for qualified and unqualified staff working in Maternity Services. Advert Develop relationships across the region to work collaboratively with the regional workforce and retention teams to inform and evaluate the national retention offer for midwives and maternity support workers. Develop mechanisms for identifying and addressing individual needs. Actively promote a culture of civility in the workplace. The post holder will play a key role in the recruitment of midwives and maternity support workers, including internationally educated midwives. Provide pastoral support to any staff, including overseas midwives, who are new to the organisation, working closely with the existing organisational international nursing recruitment team as required. Provide, or signpost to, resources that will promote job satisfaction and retention including those related to pastoral care, learning support and career development. The post holder will provide appropriate flexible and accessible support to colleagues. Promote cultural understanding within the maternity department and wider organisation. Use and analyse staff feedback to target interventions as required. Monitor impact of interventions on a range of staff experience indicators including local leaver rates. The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
