We are seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join our Light Rail Team in Birmingham. This role is crucial in developing our delivery capabilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining robust control of the planning schedule and supporting project and programme teams in planning and reporting activities. The role requires a collaborative individual with strong leadership and communication skills, who enjoys multitasking, thrives in a busy environment, and performs well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure accurate and timely capital investment programme schedule information.
* Develop the scope and work breakdown structure for the delivery schedule, including capturing key assumptions.
* Define and control the schedule baseline across project, programme, and portfolio levels, incorporating lessons learned and ensuring realism and achievability.
* Collaborate with Project Controls Specialists to ensure consistency and integration of schedule, budget, and risk baselines.
* Manage interdependencies between projects, programmes, and portfolios.
* Forecast critical resources to identify and mitigate bottlenecks.
* Establish and improve templates, activity norms, and standard work for schedules.
* Regularly review and report schedule progress, highlighting risks, issues, and opportunities.
* Produce and enhance schedule management reports for monthly cycles.
Minimum Requirements:
* Proficiency in Primavera (P6) and MS Project.
* Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.
* Degree qualification preferred; NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (A-level).
* Good technical understanding and excellent communication skills.
* Strong planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
* Ability to interface effectively at all levels of client organizations.
* Experience in developing and improving planning processes, procedures, and systems.
* Logical mindset and methodical approach.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines and as part of a team.
