Locally Employed Doctor - Education Fellow CT3/CT3+ equivalent level

This is a 12‑month post from August 2026, open to all post‑Primary FRCA (or equivalent) anaesthetic trainees, who wish to develop a further interest in medical education. The trainee will have their rota amended for education commitments and will have time dedicated to staff training, education and possibly medical simulation projects, depending on the project needs, with the remainder of the time allocated to clinical commitment and on‑call requirements.
The post would suit an individual at CT3/CT3+ equivalent level.
Learning and Development Objectives and Opportunities
* 1. Support to complete PG Cert in Medical Education

* 3. Teaching with the opportunity to explore joint trust‑wide options and develop an entirely updated program with a new approach

Main duties of the job
The duties will include pre‑peri and post‑operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls. The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on‑call rotas. The department manages three tiers of cover – Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU – and rotation will be through all of these disciplines. All rota’s are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments, and all on‑call is maintained at a 1:10 ratio.
Other responsibilities
* Communication: responsibility and arrangement of communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital, and with other hospitals.
* Teaching: the post holder may be involved in teaching other doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest.

Person Specification
Experience / Qualifications
* Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme.
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)

* Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
