LGV Waste Collection Driver – Class 2 (Category C)
Refuse Collection Vehicle (26 tonnes)
Council Contract Role
We are recruiting an experienced LGV Waste Collection Driver (Class 2 / Category C) to join a household waste collection service operating across the borough. This is a key operational role working as part of a multi-disciplinary council services team, ensuring daily waste collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with community priorities.
Contracted Hours:
Tuesday to Friday
37 hours per week
Daily hours: 09.25 per day
Temporary shift pattern: 6:00am – 3:45pm until 24th April
Role Responsibilities

Drive and operate a 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle
*
Lead and supervise waste collection crews on daily routes
*
Ensure completion of daily collection schedules
*
Manage operational records via paper systems or electronic handheld devices
*
Full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance on daily tasks
*
Ensure safe collection of bins and public safety along routes
*
Operate mechanical lifting and refuse equipment
*
Maintain cleanliness, security, and daily checks of vehicle and equipment
*
Deliver high standards of customer service when interacting with residents
*
Report issues, hazards, or service problems to supervisors/managers
*
Support training and safe working practices for crew members
Essential Requirements
*
Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Licence
*
CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
*
Experience driving LGV vehicles in operational environments
*
Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures
*
Ability to supervise and lead small operational teams
*
Good communication and customer service skills
*
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Desirable (or willingness to undertake)

Manual Handling training
*
IOSH Working Safely
*
Needle Stick awareness training
*
Experience in waste management or local authority services
