An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ranger to join us! Whether you are an Assistant Ranger who’s ready to step up, or a Ranger or related countryside professional who’s ready for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you. You’ll be working at the forefront of nature conservation and land management, as an integral part of a dedicated team of upland Rangers within the wider Fix the Fells Partnership, in a World Heritage Site landscape that’s important for its rural communities, agriculture, wildlife and is beloved by millions of visitors.
Salary: £27,612 per annum
Contract Duration: Permanent
Working Pattern: Typically, you will work Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm. From April to October, hours may shift to 7:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Thursday, with an additional rest day to support recovery from the physical demands of the role. Occasional weekend work (up to 3–4 days per year) may be required. No evening work.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

What it's like to work here
Working in the Lake District means being immersed in one of the UK’s most iconic and inspiring landscapes. From dramatic fells and tranquil lakes to ancient woodlands and rugged valleys, the geography here is as varied as it is breathtaking.
The role will require extensive travel and will be working across some of the most iconic and highly visited mountains and valleys of the Lakes: Scafell Pike, Blencathra, Buttermere, Borrowdale, and beyond. You will be required to visit remote locations, including walking into the high fells, as part of a small team of rangers delivering practical upland path work. You’ll also be working with our fantastic volunteers to support the delivery of the wider Fix the Fells Programme.

What you'll be doing
As a key member of Fix the Fells, you’ll be working in a small team of rangers in upland path and landscape restoration work. You’ll play a vital role in protecting and restoring the iconic fells of the Lake District, helping to safeguard this special landscape for future generations. With a practical mindset and a can-do attitude, you’ll support your team in path work and erosion repair techniques. You’ll help with the planning and coordination of workplans and conservation work to repair and maintain paths, and the wider landscape, across some of the most spectacular and sensitive mountain terrain in the UK.

Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you’re:
1. You have some experience in upland footpath work
2. You’re a strong team player, with a track record of working as part of a small group, and in working alongside volunteers.
3. You have some experience in managing land, nature conservation and/or access for people, particularly in an upland setting.
4. Able to work safely, and follow compliance guidelines.
5. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, inspiring and happy to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, including volunteers
6. Organised and self-motivated, able to manage your time effectively to work to schedules and meet deadlines.
7. Happy working in challenging environments in all weathers.
8. Have a full UK driving licence.
