The Inspection Engineer is responsible for delivering the inspection programme, reporting, and recording of all plant and equipment within hazardous areas across distillation, spirit processing, and maturation facilities, in accordance with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) requirements.
The role focuses on ensuring the integrity, compliance, and safe operation of safety-critical equipment associated with flammable spirits and vapours. This includes primary containment systems (e.g. stills, pipework, tanks), cask racking structures within bonded warehouses, control, prevention and mitigation systems, and electrical, control, and instrumentation assets used in hazardous areas.
The Inspection Engineer plays a key role in preventing loss of containment, reducing fire and explosion risks, and maintaining regulatory compliance across all whisky production, storage, and handling operations.
Make an Impact
Plan and deliver inspections of plant and equipment in hazardous (DSEAR/COMAH) areasInspect safety-critical assets, including ATEX equipment, containment systems, racking/structures, control/mitigation systems, and ECI equipmentEnsure compliance with legislation, standards (e.g. BS EN 60079), and company proceduresAssess warehouse racking and cask storage integrityProduce accurate reports, certifications, and maintain inspection/asset recordsIdentify defects or non-compliance and recommend corrective actionsSupport risk-based inspection (RBI) and asset integrity strategiesCollaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teamsSupport regulatory audits (e.g. HSE) and track completion of remedial actionsContribute to continuous improvement of inspection and safety processesKey accountabilities:

Your Talent and Skills
HNC/HND in Engineering (Electrical bias, Mechanical, Materials, or related discipline)Compex 1 to 4, mechanical and dust.Experience in inspection, maintenance, or asset integrityKnowledge of industry regulations and safety requirementsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilityAttention to detailEffective communication and reporting skillsAbility to work independently and in teams This role may involve working at height, in confined spaces, and in environments with potential hazards.
