Position Title: Engineer - Optical Simulation

Duration: Contract Hybrid - On site as & when, some weeks could be 5 days onsite.

Location: Crewe, Cheshire

*Applicants MUST have proof of immediate, on-going and valid eligibility to work full time in the UK and travel within the EU.*

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

1. Support engineers and feature owners, to create virtual models of vehicles and lighting components for simulation.
2. Complete Analysis and reports of results and findings.
3. Prepare demonstrations to show how the lighting in and around the vehicle will behave.

4. Light Simulation Engineer part of the Light Simulation & Photometry Team EE/L, within Electrical Engineering Department

5. Simulation Model Creation
6. Running and Analysing Simulations
7. Generation of Simulation Reports
8. Maintaining Materials library
9. Development of Simulation Techniques
10. Cross Functional Communication
11. Expanded description within Key Duties and responsibilities.
12. Responsibility for ensuring that local Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed in order to ensure own safety and the safety of others.

DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

13. The jobholder will be required to manage, perform and report on Light and optic Simulation on concept vehicle, lamp and display screens investigating ergonomic and human vision performance and comfort to customers.
14. Coordinating activities both internally within Bentley and liaising with suppliers as required.
15. High levels of communication must be maintained with all Bentley departments including All Engineering, Quality & IT etc.
16. The jobholder can make decisions on simulation process, methodology and prioritisation, however key decisions that can affect other areas and cost but must be confirmed via management.

QUALIFICATIONS

17. Qualified to Degree level (minimum) in Physics or Engineering discipline with experience of optics and simulation.
18. The applicant will be able to demonstrate a track record of success in Automotive Light Simulation with knowledge and emphasis of Human vision and optics design.
19. An awareness of Virtual Reality and real time Simulation techniques would be a benefit
20. A proactive approach with a clear focus on working collaboratively with feature owners, suppliers and developing a good working relationship.
21. There may be some infrequent need to work / travel to mainland Europe.

22. Excellent knowledge is required of

24. Ansys Software's
25. Speos for Catia
26. Ansys Speos
27. AVX (awareness)
28. Siemens Teamcentre & Dassault Enovia PLM systems
29. MS Office (including scripting in Visual basic)
30. Optical Design,
31. Detailed Analysis of simulation results
32. Complete Vehicle component integration
33. Occupant (Human) Vision and visual Ergonomics,
34. Understanding of Ergonomics,
35. Good understanding of materials and behaviour with light
36. Capability to deliver simulations from 1st data, preparation, simulation launch, analysis, reporting and management presentation
37. Ability to work efficiently with suppliers (internal and external) and customers picking up packages of work and promptly and efficiently delivering results to customers
38. Ability to rapidly pick up Bentley simulation methods and reporting structures

Other requirements

39. Reading Technical Drawings.
40. Ability to write clear technical reports
41. Understanding of electrical circuit diagrams, behaviour and control of LEDs and system integration onto vehicles.
42. Data management and revision control
43. Appreciation of vehicle communication networks including CAN and LIN communication buses.
44. Working to quality standards and processes
45. Experience with Microsoft office programs including word, power point and excel

DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Simulation Requirements

46. Receipt and acknowledgement of Simulation request.
47. Verification of customer requirements and Measurement Specifications.
48. Management of customer requirements & Expectations and deadlines
49. Communication / information sharing & packaging reviews with Research and developments teams, including Electrical, Concepts, Styling & Design, Trim, and other major interfaces

Data preparation and Model Creation & Simulation Launch

50. Preparation and cleaning of 3D data.
51. Application of physically correct materials
52. Creation of sensors & implementation of design tables
53. Mesh adjustment
54. Launching Simulations and use of HPC
55. Use of active simulation for design

Data Analysis, Report & Demonstration Compilation

56. Detailed Analysis of Simulation Results, Including but not exhaustive
57. Occupant Vision and Visual Ergonomics
58. Lighting Concept strategy
59. Interior Lighting (Internal reflections, Sunlight effects, core functional lighting, Ambient lighting, stowage lighting, Displays HUD, Cube simulations)
60. Exterior Lighting (Front and rear lighting experience and performance. Impacts to customers and environment lit and unlit)
61. Lighting effects
62. Legal verification
63. Vehicle benchmarking
64. Root cause analysis of Errors and defects discovered
65. Implications or impact introduced by the system / components into interfacing systems i.e. Interior Trim or BiW must be identified with potential solutions
66. Identification of any packaging constraints & style hard points
67. Scripting & Macro Creation
68. Creation and Compilation of test summaries and of comprehensive & detailed test reports.
69. Support Feature owners, Suppliers, and internal customers with understanding measurement results and analysis.
70. Demonstration presentation of Simulation results

Maintenance and Customer support

71. Maintain material measurement library.
72. Maintain process documentation for simulation methods/techniques
73. Correlation of simulation results to real world situation
74. Support customers understanding of simulation methods and techniques
75. Responsibility for ensuring that local Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed in order to ensure own safety and the safety of others.
