Overview
Mitchell & Urwin are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Health & Safety Manager to join our Technical Team based at Ferrybridge. This will require travel around our Yorkshire based sites. This role is central to ensuring that our operations — spanning new build housing, brickwork packages, transport, and manufactured products — meet the highest standards of legal, regulatory, and company compliance. As our work underpins the delivery of full client superstructures, you will play a key role in ensuring that every part of the build process is carried out safely and responsibly. Working collaboratively with Construction Management and Client Site Teams, you will help embed a team-based, solution-focused culture, where safety and compliance are seen as enablers of progress, not barriers, and issues are resolved constructively with a no-blame approach.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out compliance audits across all business areas — new build housing, brickwork, transport operations, and manufactured product facilities.
* Monitor and audit scaffold and access safety as part of wider compliance checks, ensuring all work at height meets regulations.
* Assess compliance and safety performance across logistics and product manufacturing linked to superstructure builds.
* Identify hazards, unsafe practices, and opportunities for improvement, providing clear and practical recommendations.
* Lead and support incident investigations, adopting a learning-focused, no-blame culture.
* Ensure compliance with legislation, company policies, and industry best practice.
* Work with site and operational management teams to implement corrective actions and continuous improvements.
* Produce accurate and detailed audit reports for senior management review.
* Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, knowledge sharing, and visible teamwork.
What You'll Bring
* Strong knowledge of health, safety, and compliance legislation across construction, logistics, and manufacturing.
* Previous experience in auditing and compliance within construction or related industries.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and encourage a team-first, solution-driven culture.
* Competence in producing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
* Experience in scaffold safety, transport compliance, or product manufacturing safety is desirable (training can be provided where required).
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel between sites and operational hubs.
What We Offer
* Competitive salary and benefits package.
* Ongoing professional development and training.
* The opportunity to influence compliance and culture across multiple areas of the business.
* A collaborative and supportive environment where your work directly contributes to the safe and successful delivery of client superstructures.
