The role
As an Electronic Technician, you’ll have a role that is out of the ordinary, developing your electronic and electrical skills, working with bespoke electronic systems for maritime platforms. You’ll have opportunities to get your teeth stuck into maritime projects, with deployment opportunities, involvement in tests, trials and prepared work within marine environments to work on-board Royal Navy (RN) platforms.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
1. Provide out-and-out operation, maintenance and repair of electronic systems at the home site.
2. Be responsible for safely carrying fault finding on electrical and electronic equipment.
3. Support in the diagnostics, repair and resolution of problems with innovative thinking and drawing on your practical knowledge.
4. Work across a range of bespoke electronic systems, developing your existing skills and experiences to incorporate analogue and digital data acquisition systems.
5. Provide technician support to systems associated with noise analysis for maritime systems.
6. Report any defects or resource issues that may affect equipment availability.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity based at our Winfrith site, with flexibility in working hours.
Essential experience of the Electronic Engineer:
We value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.
You’ll need fault finding experience to maintain and repair electronic equipment. You’ll also need experience working with electronic equipment and systems. You will require an awareness of relevant health & safety and environmental legislation.
Highly desirable criteria would include experience of acoustics, maritime engineering, awareness or experience of Royal Navy platforms and or their Electronic equipment and systems. Other highly desirable criteria may include Sea Survival Training or experience working in Rigid Inflatable Boat’s (however, training will be provided for these areas and is not a requirement for the opportunity).
Qualifications for the Electronic Engineer:
You’ll need a relevant STEM related academic background in Electrical or Electronic Engineering; such as a HND, HNC, NVQ, apprenticeship and or relevant working experience. You’ll also need a full clean UK driving licence.
