Post Overview
The post is responsible for leading on Family Integrated Care (FiCare) and Patient and Public (PPI) Involvement across the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (EMNODN) which covers 7 acute NHS Trusts, 11 acute hospitals, 5 Integrated Care Boards, 5 Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems, 1 Ambulance Trust, and the Midlands Specialised Commissioning Team. The EMNODN covers some 39,876 live births per annum with around 4,307 admissions to neonatal services per year.
Responsibilities
* Work collaboratively with the Network Management Team and relevant stakeholders to promote family integrated care and patient and public involvement across the Network.
* Be an experienced leader with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals to ensure that the user voice is always heard.
* Ensure that the Network workplan incorporates the family/user priorities.
* Deputise for the Associate Director/Deputy Lead Nurse as required.
* Develop and deliver the strategy for FiCare and PPI within the EMNODN, meeting the aims and key deliverables of the National Critical Care Review (NCCTR) 2019 and the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) neonatal commitments.
* Work as part of the EMNODN Management Team, to take forward specific projects as part of the ODN service development plans in support of the National Neonatal Service Specification and within the context of the modernisation of the NHS.
* Provide advice to the Network Board and Network Management Team with relation to FiCare and PPI.
* Act as an expert in FiCare and PPI, providing expertise to the constituent Network units.
* Co‑ordinate and link with key staff to support their local work, fostering a culture where family integrated care is embedded into everyday practice.
* Assist with the improvement of the accommodation, facilities and support available to parents and families during their baby's inpatient episodes, maximising the use of available funding for these purposes.
* Help standardise neonatal services across the Network as well as helping to support parents in preparation for the transition to neonatal outreach and/or paediatric services.
* Collaborate with Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNSs) and the Network Parent Advisory Group (PAG) to ensure that the parent voice is integral to all aspects of the work plan.
* Support the Director/Lead Nurse with the delivery of Network key performance targets and deputise for the Director/Lead Nurse or the Education, Quality and Service Improvement Lead Nurse in their absence.
* Line manage the Care Coordinator team and provide professional nursing leadership.
* Develop and promote a philosophy of family‑centred and FiCare across the Network and ensure this is embedded in every Neonatal Unit.
* Support Neonatal Units to achieve BLISS Baby Charter accreditation and UNICEF Baby Friendly status.
* Support and facilitate collaborative contact, discussions and work streams between EMNODN Neonatal Units.
* Use data from the Neonatal GIRFT programme and other local intelligence to benchmark and improve parent and family support.
* Monitor provision of suitable accommodation, facilities and support for parents and families, escalating concerns to the Network Management Team as necessary.
* Coordinate with parent/family support groups and explore establishing new support where absent.
* Maintain an active professional registration, comply with revalidation requirements and adhere to host Trust strategy, policies and procedures.
