Senior Practitioner - Children and Young People with Disabilities, Mid Essex
Fixed Term, Full Time
Working Style: Community-based worker
Please note that this is a Fixed Term Contract / Secondment opportunity for up to 9 months.
The Service includes teams such as Children with Disabilities, Young People with Disabilities, Child and Family Support Services, Preparation for Adulthood Advisors, Occupational Therapy, and a Service Development support team. It is a vibrant service focused on improving outcomes for children and young people with disabilities (birth to 25 years) and their families, aligned with SEND reforms.
The Children with Disabilities Team supports children aged 0-16 years and operates in Mid Essex, based at County Hall, Chelmsford.
The role involves working under relevant legislation (Children Act 1989 & 2004, Children and Families Act 2014, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005) to support children, young people, and adults with disabilities within social care.

The Role
The Senior Practitioner provides leadership, mentoring, oversees Duty, compiles reports, deputizes for the Team Manager, and leads practice areas. It offers opportunities for professional development and service improvement, emphasizing relationship-based social work and partnership building.
* Manage complex caseloads, provide assessments, advice, and support.
* Support families and transition to adulthood.
* Monitor needs and develop support networks.
* Assist with team management and meetings.
* Engage in service development and maintain records.
* Build partnerships and advocate for clients.
* Participate in training and undertake additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Provide expert advice, support legal frameworks, and manage complex cases.
* Lead case conferences, court attendance, and safeguard assessments.
* Mentor staff, develop partnerships, and understand financial aspects of care.
Required Experience
* Diploma in Social Work or equivalent, with Social Work England registration.
* Proven practice at an experienced social worker level in Children Services.
* Experience with Child Protection, Court work, and relevant legislation.
* Knowledge of child development and current laws.
Mobility
The role requires travel across Essex and beyond, including transporting service users. A driving license and access to a vehicle or alternative mobility means are essential.
