Highly Specialist Physiotherapist - Medicine

We have an opportunity for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to join our inpatient medical team at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering a clinical physiotherapy service to the general medical, renal, respiratory and endocrine wards, and to the twice‑monthly outpatient respiratory clinic.
They will also provide clinical leadership and support of therapy staff within the team, including OTs, PTs, APs and TSWs.
The postholder will have expert clinical knowledge of medical patients, particularly respiratory and renal, and will support junior staff on the wards. We work closely with our colleagues in the Care Transfer Hub to ensure patients are discharged from hospital without delay and move towards a discharge‑to‑assess model for appropriate patients.
Main duties of the job
This role involves assessing and treating patients with complex needs in an inpatient setting, using advanced physiotherapy skills.
It includes planning and managing your own workload while supporting and guiding junior staff and students.
You will work closely with the wider healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, high‑quality care and are discharged in a timely way.
The job also includes taking part in research, audits and service improvement work to help develop the physiotherapy service.
Strong communication skills are needed to explain difficult information to patients, families and colleagues.
You will also help with the day‑to‑day running of the service and may need to work flexibly across different sites.

Person Specification
Education
* Physiotherapy degree
* Educational background consistent with Degree entry requirements
* HCPC registration
Experience
* Experience across a range of therapy settings and rotations at Band 6 or junior level within an NHS setting
* Experience within respiratory physio adults in an acute NHS setting
* Evidence of leading clinical supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisals within an NHS setting
* Experience of communicating difficult and/or complex messages to service users and team members
* Evidence of leadership skills/experience in NHS setting
* Previous experience of on‑call physiotherapy practice in the NHS
* Experience of NHS audit
Training courses attended
* Evidence of highly specialist clinical training and CPD in relevant areas of inpatient physiotherapy care
* Evidence of Leadership training

Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per annum, pro‑rata.
