Maintenance Engineer – Electrical Bias

We’re seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a busy industrial manufacturing environment in Barnsley. This is a key role focused on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site equipment through effective planned and reactive maintenance.
You’ll be part of a hands-on engineering team where your expertise will directly contribute to improving equipment uptime, reliability, and overall site performance.
What you’ll be doing
* Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems and machinery
* Responding to breakdowns and diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults
* Reading and working from electrical and mechanical drawings
* Maintaining and repairing a range of industrial equipment including:
* Overhead cranes and jibs
* Plasma and gas cutting machinery
* Sawing and drilling equipment
* Welding and grinding equipment
* Forklifts and sideloaders
* Carrying out mechanical maintenance tasks such as bearing and gear changes
* Ensuring all work is completed in line with Health & Safety procedures
* Working independently and taking ownership of maintenance tasks
* Supporting subcontractor coordination when required
* Contributing to continuous improvement and reliability initiatives
What we’re looking for
* Electrical engineering background within a maintenance environment
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (essential)
* Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
* Experience working with industrial machinery and plant equipment
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices
* Self-motivated, practical, and proactive approach to work
