Job Summary
We are currently looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals to join our team at the Christie at Macclesfield for 4 days per week Monday to Friday (30 hours per week) working 8 hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 8pm
The Clinical Support Team work closely with the nursing team, radiographers and medical team providing clinical, administration and practical support.
The Clinical Support Worker post entails direct contact with patients, providing high quality and comprehensive day-to-day clinical support, whilst utilising a range of clinical programmes to record patient data, ensuring this is updated accurately and in a timely manner. Elements of clinical work include monitoring patient SATS, undertaking phlebotomy/cannulation and supporting the pre- treatment and treatment areas.
Relevant training and supervision will be provided.
Main duties of the job
To provide high quality and comprehensive day-to-day clinical support within the Outpatients, Phlebotomy, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy departments at the Hospital.
To carry out delegated clinical support and ensure appropriate care, information and support is given to all patients.
To assist with reception cover including collation, input and analysis of relevant patient data.
To work under the direction of the Deputy Centre Manager/Senior Sister/Principal Radiotherapist to undertake routine and specifically identified tasks.
To contribute to the efficient running of the service, and work within Trust policies and health & safety legislation.

The Christie is one of Europe's largest Cancer Treatment centres providing a comprehensive clinical service to a population in excess of 3.2 million people in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire area, with an international reputation for the development of new ideas and new technologies.
This new Christie Hospital at Macclesfield opened in December 2021 and is a purpose-built centre with 2 radiotherapy machines, a CT scanner, 18 Chemotherapy Treatment Chairs, phlebotomy, haematology and an outpatient department.

Duties And Responsibilities
Communication Skills
Assist and support clinical staff with meeting patients physical, clinical and emotional needs whilst attending the centre. Provide and receive information using empathy, and reassurance skills.
Ensure accurate recording of treatment and planning data.
Greet and escort patients within the centre.
Liaise with the main Macclesfield Hospital site and between all Christie centers, host sites and community where appropriate.
Knowledge, training and experience
Work under the direction of the clinical teams to undertake routine and specifically identified tasks once training and competencies have been completed. This will include but is not limited to: patient observations, phlebotomy, cannulation, urinalysis, glucometer readings and changing simple dressings.
Data input and radiotherapy completion tasks.
To provide cover for Reception and have knowledge of the different clinical systems used within the centre. Booking in patients, outcoming appointments, and making further appointments as required.
Knowledge and understanding of the Cancer Support and Information services offered within the centre, and refer patients as required.
Use knowledge of integrated clinical information systems for case note tracking and collation of data for referrals.
Personal Skills
Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that adequate information and support is available to patients.
Use analytical skills to make judgments on patient situations such as deciding when issues need to be escalated and support provided.

Maintain accurate patient details in all patient systems, following correct procedures to ensure information is up to date for future reference and complies with the Data Protection Act.

Will be required to utilise own initiative but work within defined SOPS, Procedures and Policies. When there is doubt or the post holder is unsure then there will be more senior members of staff available to raise issues with and receive guidance from.
