Public Procurement Associate Solicitor 3+ PQE | Leading National Firm | Birmingham | Hybrid Working
BCL Legal is working with a leading national law firm known for its reputation across the public, healthcare, social care, housing and infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth, the firm is now seeking a Public Procurement Associate to join its highly regarded Commercial team in Birmingham.
This is an exciting opportunity for a procurement lawyer looking to work on complex, high-value public sector projects within a collaborative and supportive national practice. The successful candidate will benefit from flexible hybrid working and the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced team advising major public sector clients.
The Role:
- Advise public sector clients including healthcare providers, local authorities, emergency services, housing organisations and other public bodies on procurement law matters.
- Support clients on complex procurements, including major outsourcing projects, NHS programmes, infrastructure projects, services contracts and commercial arrangements.
- Advise on the application of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, Procurement Act 2023, Procurement Regulations 2024 and Provider Selection Regime.
- Provide end-to-end procurement advice from early market engagement through to contract award and ongoing contract management.
- Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including services and goods contracts, framework agreements, call‑off agreements, concession contracts, grant agreements and collaboration arrangements.
- Advise on contract variations, waivers, interpretation issues and procurement risks.
- Work closely with colleagues across the wider firm, including procurement litigation specialists, to deliver commercially focused solutions.
- Deliver training and practical guidance to clients on procurement processes and commercial contracting.
Candidate Profile:
- Qualified solicitor with experience specialising in public procurement and commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge of public procurement legislation, including the Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contracts Regulations 2015.
- Experience advising on procurement processes, drafting procurement documentation and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Excellent drafting skills and the ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice.
- Confidence managing client relationships and taking ownership of matters.
- Strong commercial awareness with a solution‑focused approach.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
