Locally Employed Doctor (ST1 + Equivalent) Anaesthetics
Fixed term for up to 12 months
We have positions available in York.
The duties of the post include the provision of Anaesthetic services at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital Hospitals. This is inclusive of but not restricted to:
1. Pre-operative assessment, management and pre-medication of patients scheduled to undergo routine and emergency surgery.
2. Administration of Anaesthetics (local and general).
3. Post-operative assessment and management of post-operative problems in conjunction with surgical colleagues.
4. Administration of elective and emergency neuraxial and general anaesthesia in the Obstetric
5. Assistance in the Intensive Care Unit and with the Critical Care Outreach

Main duties of the job
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. In line with our outlook, we are now inviting applications for this post, based at York.
This is not an approved training position; however you will receive the following;
6. A named educational supervisor
7. Induction and bespoke new starter induction pack outlining internal training courses/opportunities available to doctors in these non-approved training positions
8. Individual training plan
9. NHS e-portfolio (Division will fund but costs will be recovered if leave before agreed end of contract)
10. Appraisal at 6 months and individual access to e-appraisal system
11. Support towards obtaining Alternative Certificate confirming achievement of foundation competencies to aid those who want to access a recognised training position in the future

Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
19. Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and skill
20. Knowledge of good medical practice and GMC requirements
21. Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and audit
22. Experience in teaching & supervising medical students and junior trainees, able to teach clinical skills and able to critically review and apply research to clinical situations
23. Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
24. Written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues
25. Able to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary with multi-disciplinary team members, patients, relatives, GPs and other agencies
26. Able to work effectively despite pressures, and to cope with stressful situations in a calm and reflective manner
27. Understanding of current NHS issues, understands the wider organisation and values the need for efficient use of resources.
Desirable criteria
28. Substantive NHS experience (12 month continuous experience )
29. Experience of setting up and/or developing clinical services, experience of supervising SpRs/specialist trainees
30. Research experience & peer-reviewed journal publications, experience in designing & implementing audit programmes
31. Familiarity with issues of service organisation and development
32. Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities to local, regional or national levels.
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
33. Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualifition
34. Eligible for full GMC registration with license to practice
35. European ALS
36. Satisfactory completion of Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 post or equivalent
37. 12 months experience working in the specialty
38. Is up to date and fit to practise safely
Desirable criteria
39. MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
40. Higher teaching qualification
