As a Project Manager, you’ll play a vital role in a strategic support programme that underpins national defence. You’ll oversee the maintenance and overhaul of missile systems on Vanguard‑class submarines - complex engineering projects that contribute directly to the UK’s continuous at‑sea deterrent.
This is a hands‑on leadership role that places you at the heart of our production facilities, working alongside specialist teams and supplier partners. You’ll ensure that critical support activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. It’s an opportunity to build your project management expertise, grow your leadership capability, and influence work that genuinely matters to national security and operational readiness.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
1. Deliver the project to meet all contractual requirements, ensuring services are delivered on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
2. Collaborate with the customer to understand evolving support requirements and maintain alignment with contractual obligations.
3. Build a strong, partnership‑focused relationship with the customer to strengthen performance and enhance service delivery.
4. Manage day‑to‑day project activity, ensuring resources are coordinated effectively with input from specialist professional leads.
5. Oversee suppliers and subcontractors, monitoring performance and driving improvement where needed.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Project Manager
6. At least five years’ experience delivering service‑ or equipment‑based projects.
7. Strong understanding of project management systems, processes and best practice.
8. High level of organisation, with the ability to self‑manage and produce high‑quality outputs with minimal guidance.
9. Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Excel.
10. Good working knowledge of APM principles.
Qualifications for the Project Manager
11. Experience in production, industrial or heavy engineering environments.
12. Background in defence, ex‑MOD or Royal Navy (not required but beneficial).
