The programme runs for three years, beginning September 2026, and combines 20% online theory with 80% clinical work‑based learning across NHS Lothian.

As an ODP you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team supporting patients through the anaesthetic, surgical and post‑anaesthetic phases of care.

Contract: Permanent. Hours: Full time, 36‑hour week.

Responsibilities

* Assist in the delivery of peri‑operative care across all phases (anaesthetic, surgical, post‑anaesthetic).

* Support senior staff through continuous learning and reflective practice.
* Use digital systems, information technology and email for clinical documentation.

Qualifications & Entry Criteria

* SQA National Qualifications: Passes in five subjects, including three at higher level, or GCSE/GCE in four subjects with one at A‑Level.
* For those without the standard entry, a minimum of one year’s relevant work experience plus DipHE entry criteria (five subjects including two at higher level or equivalent SVQ, HNC, HND) will be considered.
* English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS Level 7 (overall score ≥ 6.5).

Academic Programme Fees

Eligible students will receive funding through the Scottish Funding Council (SAAS) for residents in Scotland. Unfunded applicants must self‑fund. Details are available on the SAAS website.

The training pay is a percentage of the pay band maximum and rises progressively:

* Up to 12 months before completion: 75 % of the fully qualified rate.
* More than 12 to 24 months: 70 % of the qualified rate.
* More than 24 to 36 months: 65 % of the qualified rate.

All trainees will have the opportunity to apply for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration upon successful completion.
