Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper (6‑Month Contract – Maternity Cover)Location: North Yorkshire (Office Based)
Contract: Initial 6 months, with potential extension
Hours: 4 or 5 days per week Salary:
Equivalent to £27,000 per annum (pro‑rata)
Hays are supporting an established and growing SME business in North Yorkshire who are seeking an experienced Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper to join their team on an initial 6‑month maternity cover contract. This role will be based fully on-site and offers the flexibility of working four or five days per week.This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who is confident managing day‑to‑day finance operations and enjoys playing a key role within a small, friendly team.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinance & Bookkeeping
1. Daily bookkeeping using Sage Accounting / Sage 50
2. Raising customer invoices and managing the sales ledger
3. Processing supplier invoices and maintaining the purchase ledger
4. Aged debt management and conducting proactive credit control
5. Preparing and submitting VAT returns
6. Supporting the business with cashflow forecasting and monitoring
7. Producing regular financial reports for management review
8. Contributing to continuous improvement of finance processes
Additional Duties
9. Supporting general office and administrative tasks when needed
10. Assisting with iing calls and general enquiries
11. Providing ad hoc support to colleagues across the business
Key Requirements
12. Previous experience in a similar finance or bookkeeping role
13. Strong working knowledge of Sage / Sage 50
14. Experience preparing VAT returns and managing cashflow
15. Confident handling both sales and purchase ledger processes
16. Excellent organisation skills and strong attention to detail
