Job Title: Service Charge Accountant
Location: Manchester (Hybrid)
Contract: 18-month
Salary: £45,000 FTE (pro-rata, 36 hours per week)
The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Service Charge Accountant looking for a rewarding interim role within the social housing sector?
This is an 18-month opportunity to join a progressive organisation, supporting their finance team with service charge and rent budgeting, compliance, and reporting for leasehold and rented properties.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and manage accurate service charge budgets for existing housing stock and new developments
Review actual costs vs budget, investigating and explaining variances
Calculate and issue annual service charge statements to residents and leaseholders
Ensure compliance with all service charge legislation and regulatory requirements
Support year-end processes, ensuring surpluses, deficits, and sinking funds are accounted for correctly
Provide high-quality monthly management reporting with clear financial insights for operational teams
Deliver guidance and training to colleagues on service charge and rent accounting matters
Continuously review and improve service charge and rent processes to ensure best practice
Key Requirements
Proven experience as a Service Charge Accountant, Rent Accountant, or similar finance role within social housing or housing associations
Strong knowledge of service charge and rent legislation and compliance
Confident preparing budgets and management accounts for housing stock
Effective communicator with a collaborative and supportive approach
Available to start at short notice
