Offer description

Cloud Engineer (Platform Engineer) Cloud Platform Engineer Location – Leeds or Dublin Hybrid - 2 days per week Flutter Technology are seeking a skilled cloud engineer to play a pivotal role in the drive design, implementation, automation, and operation of our evolving AWS-based Internal Developer Platform (IDP). This platform is foundational to the global services consumed by Flutter's well-known betting brands, enabling faster delivery, improved reliability, and enhanced developer experience across the group. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the technology choices for our cloud platform, collaborating with brands across the group to facilitate the migration and modernisation of their services. You will contribute to delivering innovative platform capabilities that address diverse needs, supporting cloud-native practices and building connections within our dynamic engineering community. This role will contribute significantly to the evaluation and selection of AWS services, platform tooling (including IaC, CI/CD, and observability), and the variety of components required to achieve our group's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience working within enterprise organisations, potentially on platform engineering teams or large-scale cloud transformation projects. You possess a customer-focused and collaborative mentality, coupled with a strong technical understanding of cloud-native technologies, automation, and platform engineering principles. You can confidently articulate technical solutions, help crystallise the business benefits of platform adoption and have a genuine passion for cloud technologies and enhancing developer workflows. While the role will contribute broadly to the IDP, initial focus may involve helping shape and build out our platform API strategy. About Division/Function Flutter consists of two commercial divisions (Fanduel and International) and our central Flutter Functions; COO, Finance & Legal. Here in Flutter Functions we work with colleagues across all our divisions and regions to deliver something we call the Flutter Edge. It’s what differentiates us, our ‘secret sauce’ which plays a key part in our ongoing success and powers our brands and divisions, through Product, Tech, Expertise and Scale. In Flutter COO we work with experts across Flutter to build, deploy and communicate the Flutter Edge. Together we cover Product & Payments, Technology, Sportsbook Product & Trading, People, Property, Corporate Communications and Strategic Partnerships & Transformation. What you’ll do Develop and maintain platform capabilities and interfaces, potentially contributing to our IDP API strategy, to enhance developer experience and self-service. Drive automation across the platform using Infrastructure as Code (IaC – e.g., Crossplane, Terraform, CDK) and configuration management tooling. • Implement and manage robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions) promoting GitOps practices for managing the platform and enabling developer workflows. Manage and enhance our Kubernetes platform • Maintain source code and artifact repositories. Write and review platform code, offering constructive feedback to ensure code quality. Enable and support engineering teams with the adoption of cloud services. • Write and maintain appropriate technical documentation. Define, document, support, and approve Low-Level-Designs (LLDs) for Flutter cloud services. Act as a trusted SME offering advice and knowledge sharing to the broader technology team and internal customers. Create and drive adoption of standard operating procedures, policies, and runbooks. • Facilitate the development and communication of Flutter Group standards for design, development, and deployment. Liaise with other group functions, building and maintaining relationships, and recognising opportunities for strategic collaboration. • Liaise with Third Party vendors and partners. • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems. • On-call is likely to be introduced in the future. How you’ll do it Proven experience building and operating cloud platforms, within highly available AWS environments. Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Kubernetes (concepts, architecture, operations). Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Crossplane, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation). Experience implementing and managing GitOps workflows and tooling (e.g., ArgoCD). Solid understanding and practical experience with CI/CD principles and tooling (e.g., AWS CodePipeline, Argo Workflows, GitHub Actions, Jenkins). Experience with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, CloudWatch). Strong scripting/programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, Bash) for automation and platform development. Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (GitHub). Solid experience working with Linux operating systems. Good understanding of cloud security principles and experience delivering systems in security-compliant environments. Experience managing deployment assets such as container images and Helm charts. Experience with incident, change, problem, and risk management processes. Collaborative: Proven ability to work effectively and build strong relationships with stakeholders in cross-functional, global teams. Excellent communication skills. Objective & Analytical: Impartial approach, ensuring decisions are based on objective criteria and data. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Adaptable & Strategic: Ability to understand diverse perspectives, adapt approaches, and contribute to the strategic direction of the platform. Proactive Communicator: Actively listens, provides constructive feedback, and helps others consider new perspectives. Passion for sharing knowledge. Experience in agile working environments. Experience relocating, rehosting, refactoring, or rearchitecting services into AWS. Broader software engineering background (coding, testing, systems design). AWS Certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty, Advanced Networking). Kubernetes Certifications (e.g., CKA, CKAD). Experience specifically building platform APIs or developer-facing tools.
