Your Role: Head of H&S Events & Broadcast

As Head of Health & Safety – Events and Broadcast, you will lead H&S across Global’s Events and Broadcast portfolio, supporting the safe delivery of live events, outside broadcasts, experiential activations, premium content, podcasts, video content creation, property‑related activity and other creative work across the UK and internationally, while overseeing safeguarding risks where relevant.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead H&S oversight for Events and Broadcast activity, including video content creation, property‑related risks and relevant safeguarding matters, ensuring effective governance, controls and escalation.
* Partner with the Health & Safety Director to maintain a high‑performing H&S function that delivers practical, commercial and solutions‑focused support.
* Work with senior stakeholders across Events, Broadcast and wider business areas to embed H&S into planning, decision‑making and delivery.
* Provide expert advice on creative briefs, production plans, commercial proposals and operational activity so risks are identified early and managed effectively.
* Lead safety planning for live events, outside broadcasts, experiential activity and other higher‑risk projects, including risk assessments, safety plans, emergency arrangements and control measures.
* Provide oversight of higher‑risk activities such as temporary structures, electrical safety, crowd safety and work at height.
* Review and challenge plans and delivery approaches to ensure risks are managed proportionately and effectively.
* Act as the senior H&S adviser for Events and Broadcast, with authority to intervene, escourt or recommend suspension where risk is not adequately controlled.
* Lead incident response, escalation, investigation and reporting for significant events, ensuring root causes are identified and lessons learned are shared.
* Provide out‑of‑hours support for significant incidents, high‑risk activity and operational escalations where required.
* Develop contingency and emergency plans appropriate to the scale and nature of each activity.
* Build effective relationships with regulators, local authorities, licensing authorities and other external bodies to support safe and compliant delivery.
* Support safe video content creation through effective planning, risk assessment and operational controls.
* Provide H&S advice on property‑related activity, ensuring premises, facilities and workplace change risks are managed appropriately.
* Support the business to identify and manage safeguarding considerations relevant to Events, Broadcast and content creation, with suitable controls and escalation in place.
Governance, Management Systems and Assurance
* Ensure H&S systems, controls, reporting and assurance processes are effective, embedded, measurable and auditable.
* Own and continually improve relevant elements of Global’s H&S management system.
* Align Events and Broadcast H&S activity with Global’s Integrated Management System and ISO 45001 requirements, supporting compliance, audit readiness and continual improvement.
* Maintain an effective governance framework, including KPIs, assurance activity, risk registers, action tracking and performance reporting.
* Own the Events and Broadcast risk register, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and tracked to completion.
* Strengthen contractor and partner assurance so third parties meet Global’s legal, safety and performance standards.
* Conduct assurance monitoring across contractors, suppliers, productions, promotional activity and events to test compliance and drive improvement.
* Keep up to date with legislation, codes of practice and industry guidance, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and best practice.
* Manage budgets, specialist suppliers and external support effectively.
Team Leadership and Capability Building
* Lead and develop the Events and Broadcast H&S team, building a consistent, high‑quality approach to planning, advice, assurance and compliance.
* Coach and support the team, ensuring role clarity, strong performance and continuous professional development.
* Develop and deliver practical H&S training, including accredited and in‑house programmes, to build competence across the business.
* Ensure suitable inductions, briefings and training are in place for staff, freelancers, contractors, volunteers and partners where required.
* Promote a positive, pragmatic and inclusive safety culture that enables safe creativity, operational excellence and continual improvement.

What You’ll Need
* Significant leadership experience in H&S within events, broadcast, media, production, entertainment or similarly complex operational environments.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent essential. CMIOSH desirable.
* Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application in live events, productions, contractor management and dynamic workplaces.
* Strong understanding of event and production risk management, including emergency planning, contractor control, incident investigation and assurance activity.
* Experience developing, implementing and improving H&S management systems, governance processes and compliance frameworks.
* Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and balance risk, pace, creativity and commercial priorities.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into clear, practical actions.
* Strong analytical and IT skills, using data and reporting to drive improvement.
