Job Description

You’ll enjoy working outdoors in all weathers in a physically demanding job. The work is varied and involves taking environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, residential and commercial businesses. You will be working alone for the majority of the time but also sometimes part of a close team surveying fish populations.
You will be trained to collect samples using relevant equipment and entering data on smart phone or tablet. The job involves being outdoors on most days, includes carrying samples and equipment, driving, lifting and working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and ensure you follow current Health and Safety procedures.
The plan is to hold face to face interviews around late November 2025. The team collects field based samples for local, national and statutory requirements to provide key data for the Environment Agency.
This post is in the Central West monitoring field team and will be based at Kidderminster. The main work area will be South Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Black Country with some work further afield to support team operations. This is a field-based role and requires extensive driving in urban and rural locations.
Experience / Skills Required
* Full UK driving licence (including van)
* Basic computer literacy
* Working with smartphone technology
* Attention to detail
* Orderly and good at following set instructions
* Reliable and able to work on your own as well as part of the wider team
* Navigational skills – the ability to find your way around urban and rural areas.
* Comfortable working in and near water
* Environmental background is not essential but desirable.
Core Working Hours
The core hours for this role are 37 per week, Monday to Friday. The majority of the time will be outside collecting samples from different locations across the team territory. Samples will need to be returned to a base location each day.
