Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW is a dedicated independent charity committed to providing emotional support, information, and guidance for individuals living with dementia in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Our mission is to assist those affected by dementia at every stage of their journey, ensuring that both individuals and their loved ones receive the necessary support.
Summary
We are seeking a compassionate Group Facilitator to join our team at Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW. In this role, you will lead a social group for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, fostering a safe environment for sharing experiences and providing valuable resources. Your contributions will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for those affected by dementia.
Responsibilities
* Facilitate group sessions for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.
* Create a supportive environment that encourages open communication and sharing.
* Provide educational resources and information relevant to dementia care.
* Support participants, helping them navigate challenges associated with dementia.
* Work with Head of Community Support to develop activities based on the principles of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST).
* Coordinate a small team of volunteers.
Requirements
* Experience in facilitating groups, preferably in a healthcare or community setting.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
* Lived experience of living with dementia through caring for a loved one with the condition or working with dementia would be advantageous, but is not essential as training will be provided.
* Experience working with older people and/or families is an asset but not essential.
* Must have experience of using Outlook, Word, Excel, Databases
* A compassionate approach towards individuals living with dementia and their families.
Other
* Must have use of own car to be able to take equipment to/from the Group each week.
* Must be physically able to set up/take down tables and chairs at each group session and carry equipment from car to venue.
* Be happy to store equipment at home (art & craft trolley, refreshments, activity materials)
* Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
* CST Training will be provided
Hours
* Tuesday 12pm-5pm (rotating between Sway/Lymington/Lyndhurst
* Wednesday 12pm-5pm (New Milton)
