Job Title: Customs Manager
Department: Imports & Exports
Main Responsibilities
* To ensure that the client remains customs compliant including running and maintaining regular audits throughout the company.
* Apply for new customs procedures or approvals when required.
* Create instructions and manuals to staff to follow when new procedures or approvals are brought in.
* To give advice to colleagues and customers on any customs related matters.
* Develop opportunities to apply for customs simplifications on behalf of traders including Inward Processing, Outward Processing, Customs Warehousing, Approved Exporter, Duty Deferments, Returned Goods Relief or VAT postponed accounting.
* Manage the company deferment account to ensure only approved customers are given access and funds are monitored.
* Monitor costs of systems including any port/security changes and make suggestions where possible to improve costs or where that is not possible ensure colleagues and clients are updated with up-to-date tariff information so we are covering our costs.
* Proffer and maintain good Customer Service to ensure that client’s requirements are completed to the expected company standard.
* Know, understand and implement all office routines.
* Know, understand and implement the systems relating to the mode of transport.
Key Skills and Behaviours
* Track record of successfully obtaining customs approvals
* Knowledge of compliance auditing
* Experience in customs procedures for special processes
* An ability to use ones initiative, common sense and to be proactive.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to negotiate effectively with customers and suppliers.
* Be flexible and have a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the day to day business.
