The below job description will outline this position of: Controls Engineer
Typically, this person will be responsible for the design, development and support of electrical and control systems used in marine stabiliser and steering applications. This includes new developments as well as the maintenance and support of legacy systems, from initial concept to end-of-life. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-disciplinary engineering teams and must have strong PLC programming skills, experience with documentation and design tools, and a sound understanding of automation within marine environments.

Duties and responsibilities of the Controls Engineer:
• Review customer technical requirements and translate them into technical deliverables
• Design and maintain electrical/control hardware and software systems, including:
• Electrical drawings
• Technical specifications
• Engineering BoMs
• Test procedures
• O&M manuals
• Technical project documentation
• Program and configure Siemens PLCs to meet project-specific needs
• Develop, test and support prototypes and new designs
• Troubleshoot issues during design, programming, commissioning and in-service phases
• Perform system hazard/risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable standards
• Collaborate with mechanical and project engineering colleagues to ensure seamless system integration
• Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders as needed
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering tasks to agreed quality standards
• Support sea trials, commissioning, and on-site diagnostics as required
• Stay informed on industry trends, tools, and evolving technologies in automation and controls
• Comply with all company QHS&E and business management procedures and policies
Qualifications and requirements for the Controls Engineer::
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or equivalent experience
• Strong Siemens PLC programming and configuration expertise
• Proven ability to create detailed specifications, wiring diagrams, and electrical drawings
• Sound knowledge of electrical systems, fault-finding and circuit diagnostics
• Competence with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD packages
• Familiarity with standards such as IEC, UL, ISO and relevant safety protocols
• Logical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Desirable:
• Experience with motion control systems and motor drives
• Understanding of hydro-mechanical systems
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g. PROFIBUS, MODBUS)
• Hands-on experience supporting commissioning or fault resolution on site
• Exposure to marine and naval systems and standards
• Experience writing technical documentation for Naval projects
• Knowledge of environmental test requirements and procedures
