Overview
We have permanent vacancies in the Cardiothoracic theatres at Oxford University Hospital NHS Trust. This role is a scrub practitioner working primarily in the theatre with some clinical work in the Cardiac Angiography suite.
Responsibilities
* Act as a patient advocate during the peri‑operative period of care.
* Provide skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team.
* Anticipate and respond to the requirements of the surgical team, maintaining situational awareness and supporting the surgeon.
* Prepare and maintain instruments, equipment, swabs, needles, and sundries for cases.
* Document appropriately in EPR and maintain theatre records, ensuring that logs and logs of patient care are completed accurately.
* Monitor, order, and rotate stock levels to minimise wastage and improve theatre efficiency.
* Assist in assessing, planning, and delivering patient‑centred care plans as required by the surgical team.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with experience in a scrub role desirable; newly qualified nurses and ODPs are encouraged to apply.
* Strong knowledge of theatre procedures and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

All posts involve an on‑call commitment to cover out‑of‑hours emergency work. The role provides structured preceptorship, mentorship, and education programmes, including access to the in‑house Peri‑Operative Care Course, study days, and national conferences.
